Introduction:
My name is Sarah Adelaida McIntire but I go by Adelaida my middle name. You can also call me Addie for short.
My middle name is from this beautiful woman, Adelaida Flores McIntire, my Grandmother.
Employment:
I have worked with deafblind students for 9 years. I got my start working in the deafblind program at Perkins School for the Blind. I spent some time working for the Massachusetts Association for the Blind when I was learning about O&M. I also spent time working for Partners for Youth with Disabilities managing the creation of this new Project LENS program which is a segment of PYDs Mentoring program funded by the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB), where PYD matches low vision or blind youth with adults with similar disabilities.
When my husband got a new job working for the National Federation for the Blind we packed up and moved to Baltimore. Soon after arriving I began working for the Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) with a deafblind student. In addition to my work there I spent time on the side working as a Support Service Provider (SSP) for the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind. In 2019 I left MSB to spend time working for Judy Heumann and then eventually returning to MSB. Upon completion of my Intervener Program at Central Michigan University (CMU) I was hired by ContextGlobal (CG), an interpreting agency based in D.C. I was the first intervener ever hired by CG. CG contracted with the Washington D.C. public school system to place me with a deafblind student in their school. My hiring as an intervener marked the first time D.C. ever hired someone in that role. The CG contracted with MSB and I returned to this familiar school. While I am not the first intervener to work at MSB, I am the first person MSB hired with the official title and work responsibilities of an Intervener. It is my hope that this new trend of schools hiring interveners in official capacities is just the beginning and it will become more common place.
Currently, I am working on getting a Masters in Education with a certificate to become a Teacher of Blind and Low Vision Students at the University of Pittsburgh Boston.
I did my undergraduate degree at the amazing Hampshire College.

Personal:
I live in Baltimore, MD with my husband and three cats. I am a self professed crazy cat lady. I like living in the city but fill my home with lots of potted plants giving me a sense of calm. I enjoy coloring books, paint by numbers, doing embroidery, and watching (too much) TV.
